Dr. Dwight Perry

Provost and Dean of Education, Moody Bible Institute

Dr. Dwight Perry was appointed as Provost and Dean of Education of Moody Bible Institute in December, 2019. He Previously served as a professor of Pastoral Studies in the Moody undergraduate school from 1994 to 2004. Prior to that, he was Moody’s Midwest regional coordinator from 1986 to 1989. In that role he oversaw continuing education classes and evening classes at seven regional campuses including the main campus for the Moody Evening School. As a practitioner scholar, Dr. Perry has served extensively in the local church, denominational, and academic leadership for the past 40 years.

He comes to Moody from nearby North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, where he has served as the dean of faculty since 2017. He is also a professor of homiletics and leadership.

A sought-after Bible teacher, Dr. Perry has spoken across the country in the areas of homiletics, organizational and systems development, and diversity. He also served for 12 years as a regional president and executive minister with Converge Great Lakes. As the leader of a church association that specializes in church planting and leadership training, Dr. Perry revitalized a movement that had plateaued and was in decline.

Dr. Perry has published extensively in the area of practical theology, including homiletics (preaching) for ministry leaders to assist them in preparing Bible-centered messages and lessons. In addition, he has published and contributed to resources focused on racial and cultural diversity, as well as urban ministry, such as Moody Publishers’ A Heart for the City.

In addition to his years of experience in academics and institutional leadership, Dr. Perry has been a senior pastor and an associate pastor at three Chicagoland churches. He was the first African American to join the national staff of the Baptist General Conference, working in the area of U.S. ministries and home missions. He oversaw fundraising, African American and urban church planting, as well as department budget and finance.

A native of Chicago, Dr. Perry grew up in the inner city of Chicago and went on to be the first African American to earn a PhD from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill. He is also a graduate of the University of Illinois in Urbana, and has four degrees in education.

Dr. Hutz H. Hertzberg was appointed as president of Christian Heritage Academy (CHA), Northfield, IL, on July 1, 2017.

CHA is a nationally recognized PreK-12 college and life preparatory school. For the fourth consecutive year, CHA was ranked #1 Best Christian High School in Illinois by Niche.com in the 2021 Best Schools in America review. Additionally, CHA ranked #9 Best College Prep Private High School and #10 Best Private K-12 School in the State.

Dr. Hertzberg previously served as president of Christian Union, based in Princeton, New Jersey, where he gave leadership to the organization’s mission of developing transformative Christian leaders at some of America’s most strategic universities (Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford and others) and also to the building of networks of Christian professionals in key cities across the nation.

Prior to his time with Christian Union, Dr. Hertzberg served as the first executive director of The Orchard Network, a Chicago area organization committed to developing next generation pastors and lay leaders for gospel-centered leadership.

Previously, Dr. Hertzberg served for seven years as executive pastor of the historic Moody Church in downtown Chicago, giving leadership to its multiple ministries and staff.

Dr. Hertzberg has also served in several higher education administrative and faculty positions including for over twelve years at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Trinity International University where he served as dean of the chapel and student ministries, and also dean of students. Prior to that he served as chaplain at Wheaton College, and held various administrative and faculty positions at Judson University, DePaul University College of Law, and the College of DuPage.

Dr. Hertzberg has also served as interim senior pastor at Winnetka Bible Church, director of church planting for the EFCA Great Lakes, and associate director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Chicagoland.

For twenty years Dr. Hertzberg served as chaplain in the United States Naval Reserve serving mostly with the United States Marine Corps. He continues to serve as the senior protestant chaplain at Chicago O’Hare and Midway airports giving leadership to a team of fifty chaplains and overseeing eighteen weekly chapel services at these airports.

He is a licensed and ordained minister with academic degrees from Wheaton (IL) College (BA, MA) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (MAR, DMin, PhD).

Dr. Mark Jobe is the 10th president of the historic and influential Moody Bible Institute, a position he began earlier this year. 


The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". The president is required by law to sign a proclamation each year, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day
